The Importance of Photographs 

In recent years, photographs have become so common that they have almost lost meaning. During the 1950s and 1960s, photographs were not only scarce, but also expensive to acquire.

Photographs depicting important memories were therefore an important part of front room decor, as the few photographs that families had were proudly on display.  

This allowed people to keep their families together even when living miles apart.
