Old Money
Here are pictures of the old coins I found at Fairfield House. I explain how much they were worth in a way which is easier to understand today.

Farthing -

There were four farthings in a penny

One Penny -

One penny continues to hold the same value today, and is a coin which is still in circulation

Six Pence -

A six pence, also known as a tanner, was worth one fortieth of a pound, or half a shilling

Half Crown -

A half crown was worth 2 shillings, which in today's money is valued at roughly an eighth of a pound (8p)

Half Penny -

The half penny, as is suggested by the name, was worth half of a penny, or one four-hundred-and-eightieth of a pound

Three Pence -

A threepence, or thruppence, was worth 3d which was roughly a quarter of a shilling, or one eightieth of a pound

One Shilling -

One shilling was worth one twentieth of a pound, or 12p.

Two Shillings -

Two shillings, more commonly known as 'florin', was one tenth of a pound, or 10p
